Garment details

The front has an off-center V-neckline with a plain finish on one side and a capelet on the other. The latter is sewn to the neckline and wraps around the back, ending on the left shoulder where it is gracefully pleated. The left shoulder fastens inconspicuously with hooks and eyes. The absence of a lining is typical in couture dressmaking, as the lining might cause an unwanted pull or wrinkle on the dress. Instead, the raw edges of the seams and hems are hand-overcast to prevent raveling. This finish is flat and inconspicuous from the right side. The capelet is also unlined, edged with narrow hems. The left side of the front neck edge is finished with a narrow facing cut from silk chiffon and applied by hand.
