Description
One of a pair of standing hexagonal salts, panels engraved with a central oval medallion with scene and sign of the zodiac at top and with the month of the year engraved above, from July to December, surrounded with scrolls, foliation and flowers, molded base and rim with elongated loop design with pellets between, flat hexagonal top rim engraved with flowers, leaves and three birds, and three cast feet in form of chimeras on oval bases. Inscription: Engraved with block initials on bottom of a foot: LVW. Later initials on foot: MVR. Mark: On panel of body: [Amsterdam town mark] [date letter for 1623] [maker's mark.]
