Fan with cream silk organza mount and original box

A: Cream silk leaf fan hand painted with bucolic scene of three women laying flowers on a woodland altar. Signature on lower right: Yernawa [?]. Asymmetrical bobbin lace insertion at edges, with large area of lace at upper left. Monture of amber tortoise shell or celluloid; sticks plain, the outer eight ribs applied on top of leaf, inlaid with silver foil (piqué), and cut to match floral pattern; brass rivet; tortoise shell button and loop. B: Cardboard box with hinged lid, covered with cream satin; lid lined with same, stamped in gold: Ernest Kees / Fabrique d'Éventails / 28 Rue de Quatre Septembre Paris. Probably used by Mrs. Anson Phelps Stokes (née Helen Louisa Phelps, 1846-1930).
