Description Irregularly shaped coil silver ink stand with die-rolled border on four cast winged lion-paw feet that holds two cut-glass wells with silver onion dome covers engraved with stylized fleur-de-lis. Plaque at front center of stand surmounted with flags supporting shield bearing arms of New York State and at rear center handle shaft topped by helmeted classical female bust. All components bolted through base and secured by silver nuts. Inscription: Engraved on obverse: To His Excellency / Gov. John T. Hoffman / Commander in Chief / of The National Guard / of the State of New York. Engraved on reverse: From Samuel T. E. Beck, M.D. / With the compliments of the Season, New York Jany 1st, 1870. Mark: Marked on underside of base, incuse: W & H / 900 / 1000.
