Description Eighteen-carat gold rectangular tray from beverage service with scalloped outline and applied floral border, inner border chased with whiplash curve motif, applied D-shape handles, and chased with floral motifs from corners toward center, and whiplash curve motif creating reserve for inscription. Inscription: Engraved on obverse, center of tray: 1817-1867-1897 / Samuel Sloan / having been for Thirty Years / President of / The Delaware Lackawanna and Western / Rail Road Company, / the Officers and Employees of that Company / present to him this Testimonial / on the Eightieth Anniversary of his birth / this Twenty-fifth day of December / 1897 .
