Description Cylinder-top desk made of mahogany and mahogany veneer with satinwood and ebony string inlay. Pulling on brass knobs activates roll-front top, revealing interior with pigeon holes and small drawers faced with satinwood with ivory pulls and an adjustable writing board, which can be propped up with frame, covered with green baize. Under knobs: three drawers below three small drawers with beaded edge, and one key. Stamped on brass pulls: HJ. Owned by Alexander Hamilton (1757-1804) and used at his New York City residence or at his country estate in Harlem, The Grange.
