Description
Raised hemispherical lobate-paneled brandywine bowl with six panels each repoussé-chased with a single flower and associated foliage, on cast circular footring with flanged lower edge, two cast vertical caryatid handles, lower ends forked with outside section terminating in small scrolls, and rows of large beads or flowerheads on sides. Inscription: On the base: MB. On the inside of bowl: [unidentified arms in lozenge, surmounted by bridal garland]. Later inscription on base: To / Edward N. Bibby / Years of kindness to his late Uncle & Aunt / Samuel & Mary Gouverneur / prompt this slight Memento of their & / their Children's grateful regard / January 1st 1849. Mark: Struck twice below lip of one central panel in trefoil: B / GO.
