Inscription: Engraved within cartouche under spout: Presented to / William De Groot / BY / Newbold & Cruft, / for his prompt & faithful / services in saving their / books and papers / at the great fire that / occurred in New York / July 19th 1845. Mark: Struck on base: GALE & HAYDEN / [profile head] [eagle].
