Teapot with seamed, rounded paneled body, incurved shoulder, and cast and applied scroll-and-shell border at edge of collar around cover, cast leaf-and-scroll feet, repoussé-chased and engraved rose motif creating central reserves on the side of the body, cast S-scroll handle with inserted insulators, and hinged paneled domed cover with cast bud finial. Part of two piece tea set. Inscription: Engraved on one side: From / the Directors of / the N.Y. Institution / for the / DEAF AND DUMB / To / Elizabeth Reynolds Budd, / New York, March 11, / 1845. Engraved on the other side in script: ERB. Mark: Marked in rectangle on base: G.W. & H.
