Description
Teapot from tea service with seamed elliptical body, concave shoulders and applied beaded bands at shoulder and base. Trumpet-shaped domed hinged cover with urn finial bolted through and secured with silver nut. Straight seamed spout, wooden C-scroll handle pinned into silver sockets, body engraved with bright-cut ermine mantling, and shield on either side of body. Inscription: Engraved on body, within shield on one side: JEMR. Engraved on body, within shield on other side: ETS. Scratched on base: ELIZABETH TITUS 1782 / DAUGHTER OF GEN. FRANCIS TITUS / ELIZABETH T. MESEROLE 1840 / CLARA E. SHONNARD 1881 / S. F. TAYLOR / 1890. Mark: Marked on base: [sheaf of wheat] / J. & T.D / [bird's head.]
