Pyriform ewer on domed circular foot, with naturalistic repoussé-chased grapevine and grape cluster motif forming reserve below spout. Given by Abraham B. and David Sands to builder John Degraw, in appreciation of Degraw's skill in the construction of their houses at 6 and 8 East 17th Street, New York. Inscription: Engraved on body: Presented to / JOHN DEGRAW / As a testimonial of Respect for his skill / as a Builder, and his faithful execution of / the Carpenter's Work in / erecting two Houses / Nos. 6 and 8, East 17th St. New York / for / A. B. & D. Sands / 1851. Mark: On underside of body, incuse: WOOD & HUGHES.
