Description One of a pair of ewers with raised form on domed circular foot, bands of heavy beading at edge of foot, juncture of body and foot, shoulder and lip. Neck and lip segments seamed and flat-chased with scrolls and flowers. Body and top of foot repoussé chased with scrolls and flowers, Rococo mantling around reserve with inscription, concave gadrooning chased on stem of foot and cast S-curve handle composed of overlapping shell segments beginning and terminating in cornucopias brimming with flowers. Inscription: Engraved on body: Elam Williams / to / Julie A. Vanderpoel Mark: Marked on underside of foot: BALL, BLACK & Co. / [two pseudohallmarks] [lion passant] N-YORK / E&S.
