Description Classical ewer-form pitcher on domed circular pedestal base with cast C-scroll handle in form of grapevine, tendrils outlining lip, shoulder, and foot, grape cluster and leaves pendant from lower handle joint, and overall repoussé-chased decoration of naturalistic grapevines, leaves, and clusters of fruit forming reserve. Inscription: Engraved within reserve: TO / MARSHALL LEFFERTS, Esq. / President of the / New York and New England and / New York State Telegraph Companie / From the Stockholders and Associated Press / of New York City, viz. / COURIER & ENQUIRER, JOURNAL OF COMMERCE, / EXPRESS, HERALD, SUN & TRIBUNE. / As a token of the / satisfaction and confidence inspired by his / efficient services in advancing the cause / and credit of the Telegraph System, the / noblest enterprise of this eventful age. / NEW YORK, June 25, 1850.
