Description Tankard with slightly tapered cylindrical body with applied molded baseband and lip, double-scrolled handle with baluster drop below five-knuckle hinge, pointed handle terminal and stepped flat-top cover with cast scrolled thumbpiece and engraved crenate projecting flange opposite handle. Inscription: Engraved with the Dunscomb arms, "MD" in cipher on lid and "MD" on base; later script engraving on body side: "This tankard,/which was for 100 years in the Dunscomb family/and bears their arms,/was presented to Morgan Dix,/by William Dix,/at the request of his wife,/Harriet Mary Little/niece of the late/William E. Dunscomb, Esquire,/who, entering into her eternal rest/on the 28th day of November, A.D. 1879,/at Algiers in Africa, left this, with her love,/to her old pastor and friend." Mark: "EP" in square struck at center of underside of the base.
