Description
Classic Boston tankard raised with straight sides that taper from the base to lip. It has an applied molded midband above lower handle joint, applied stepped footring, and domed, stepped cover with inner flange with capstan finial joined to the body with a five-part hinge. The handle is a raised seamed handle with short baluster drop at shoulder, cast satyr's mask on handle terminal, and scroll thumbpiece. Inscription: "LW" in Old English caps within reserve; "METROPOLITAN FAIR"; "Presented to Mr. Lester Wallack BY his Friends of the DRAMATIC COMMITTEE April 1864"; "Mrs. John Sherwood./Mrs. Charles E.Strong./ Mrs. J.C. Peters./Mrs. Gen. Fremont./Mrs. Richard Tighe./Mrs. W. HM Vickar/Mrs. J.H. Warren./Mrs. G.T. Strong; "R. grant White./John C. White./Wm. J. Hoppin./L.W. Jerome./W.H.Lp. Graham.". Mark: Left of handle near rim: "IHURD" in cartouche.
