Description Grand Canal Celebration medal; silver, with original "curious" wooden box made by turner Daniel Karr and cabinetmaker Duncan Phyfe from woods procured in the western forests and transported to New York by the Seneca Chief, the first canal boat from the lakes to arrive in New York City. Archibald Robertson (1765-1835), artist; Charles C. Wright (1796-1854), engraver; lettering by Richard Trested upon die made by William Williams; struck by Maltby Pelletreau. Medals were minted in gold, silver, and "semi-metal"; they were distributed at the City Recorder's office from June 26-28, 1826, following the 26 October 1825 celebration.
