Description
Mug with tulip-shape body, scroll handle capped with acanthus leaf, and spreading circular base. Inscription: Engraved on base: de Peyster coat-of-arms [Argent, two sheep grazing under a linden tree], proper and crest [ A linden tree], proper, motto Depasco; On base: "I D P"; Engraved on front: "This/JORUM/belonged/to/Johannis de Peyster/First of his name in this Country/who brought it out from/HOLLAND/1640-45" (added at a later date). Mark: English marks on base have been rubbed off.
