Description Ewer with baluster-shaped body on stepped circular pedestal base. Die-rolled palmette in heart borders applied at shoulder, body midband, body-pedestal juncture (border of strip cut away), and top of base. Narrow pinnate leaf die-rolled border applied at lip, and hollow S-scroll handle with leaf furls cast in two vertical halves. Inscription: Engraved on ewer: Presented to / Genl. Pierre Van Cortland, / by the Directors of the / West Chester County Bank, / June 1836. Mark: Marked on base of body in serrated rectangles: B. Gardiner / NEW - YORK. Marked on inside of foot: MANUFACTURED BY MARQUAND & CO., N.Y.
