Description
Goblet with spun tulip-shape lower body, die-rolled leaf-and-spear border inset at shoulder and soldered to seamed outflaring upper section which continues to everted lip, on stepped circular foot, lip and foot edged with die-rolled leaf-and-spear borders. Inscription: Body engraved on one side: "Awarded by the/American Institute/at the 22nd Annual Fair Oct 1849/To Dr. Lewis A. Sayre/For the best Blood Mare/Young Lady Lightfoot"; Engraved on the reverse side: "Blood Mare Young Lady Lightfoot/Bred by Chas. H. Hall Esq./of Harlem, N.Y./'Sire Shark' dam 'Old Lady Lightfoot'/by 'Sir Archie' out of 'Old Black Marie'/by Imported 'Shark'/Her sisters are the noted racers/'Black Marie'/'Bay Marie'/'Shark' and others." Mark: Struck on underside of body: "W. ADAMS" and "NEW-YORK" both in serrated rectangles.
