Description
Single-bellied tankard with stepped base, molded midband, hinged, stepped, domed cover, double-scroll handle with molded and scrolled lambrequin ends, lower end with twisted whorls at upper edge and cast thumb piece composed of opposing C-scrolls (deep beak-shaped spout with strainer edged with applied flat molding added opposite handle). Inscription: Engraved in script on body: "A Testimony of respect/from Fire Company No. 26 to/Mr. Jameson Cox, late foreman/New York 1823". Mark: Struck on underside of the cover and body: [maker's mark] [date letter] [lion passant] [crowned leopard's head]
