Description The ship depicted here is the "Sylvan Dell" (1872-1919) which was built in 1872 in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.  It traveled from the lower part of Manhatten to Harlem, eventually to become used for ferry service after the building of the elevated railroad in 1883.  It was destroyed by a fire and sank in 1919.
