Description
Tankard with straight tapering sides above applied heavy molded band at base, double-scrolled handle with pointed tip and shaped baluster drop applique below five-knuckle hinge, double-stepped flat top with crenate flange, and cast scroll thumbpiece (repair to the edge of lid). Inscription: "M/R*L" on the handle for Robert Livingston (1708-1790), third Lord of Livingston Manor, and Maria Thong Livingston (1711-1765) who married on May 20, 1731. Engraved at a later date (ca. 1900) with the Livingston coat-of-arms, crest, and motto: "Spero Meliora" (translation: "I hope for better things") and: "Robert and Mary Thong Livingston Married 1731". Mark: In script within rectangle on center of base: "Myers".
