Description
Fan of white paper leaf painted in gouache. On recto: Figures in mid-18th century dress in a garden, a man blowing bubbles for children at the center; surrounded by printed silver C-scrolls and flowers, with polychrome painted baskets of flowers at corners; overall shaded from pink at corners to blue at center. On verso: Scene of bucolic play with printed silver foliage at sides; silver paper binding at top of leaf. Monture of pierced and carved ivory, inlaid with silver foil in leaf in foliate pattern (piqué) and painted with oranges and blue daisies in pierced medallions; mother-of-pearl rivet button; stamped gilt metal loop.
