Description
A: White sized silk leaf fan, embroidered with silver thread, silver sequins and paillettes in leaf, flower, and rosette shapes in swagged garland pattern; trimmed with silvered paper at top and bottom of leaf. Monture of carved and pierced ivory, the sticks with central medallion depicting female figure kneeling, surrounded by sticks with pierced stylized foliate motifs; guards with standing female figure beneath tree backed with silvering; metal rivet, ivory button. B-C: Associated tubular box with rounded cap lid of card covered with paper printed with reddish brown, blue and green foliate design; printed paper label: Clarke, Fan Maker / N: 45, Ludgate Hill. Box probably not original to fan. Belonged to Mrs. Thomas C. Pearsall.
