Description
Part of a set consisting of a pitcher and two goblets.The pitcher has a pyriform body on domed circular foot, body and foot repoussé-chased with grapes and grape leaves creating reserve opposite handle, scroll handle chased like grapevine terminating in cluster of leaves and grapes, and shaped lip outlined with cast and applied scrolls and grapeleaf clusters. Inscription: Engraved within reserve on body: "Presented by the/Letter Carriers of the N.Y.P.O./to John H. Hallett Esq./as a token of respect and esteem/New York/January 1st 1853." Unmarked.
