Description Sterling silver loving cup with gilded interior, inverted pyriform body with everted lip, three cast C-scroll handles ornamented with ivy, laurel, oak leaves, and acorns, applied foliage continuing from upper handle junctures onto body below lip and up from irregularly shaped base and repoussé-chased foliage extending above lower handle junctures into midsection of body. Inscription: Engraved on cup: Presented to / August Belmont Esq. / by the Board of Directors / of the / Interborough Rapid Transit Company / In appreciation of his service as its / President in the construction of the / Rapid Transit Subway / New York City, October 27th / 1904. Engraved on cup, in frosted gold script: AB. Mark: Struck on underside of base, incuse: S. 5812 / STERLING / Dominick & Haff / [trademark incorporating 925 in rectangle] / [circle] / 1904.
