Description Hollow, cylindrical silver baton engraved with spiral laurel garland, crossed with spirally applied band of silver beading to which gold enamel plaques are attached. Arches joined by laurel in gold creating niches. In one niche, cast classical male figure with lyre with diamonds in blue enamel plaque on reverse side, ends capped with acanthus leafage and set with blue stones in raised bezels and decorated with a depiction of the god Apollo with his lyre. Inscription: Engraved in niche: Dem / Forderer / Wahrer Kunst / Carl Anschutz / Von / seinen freunden / New York / 11 Dec. / 1862. Engraved on gold plaques attached to silver beading: Beethoven / Mozart / Weber / Lortzing / Flotow / Kreutzer. Cipher set in diamonds in blue enamel plaque on one side of baton: CA.
